Choose your preferred way to send money to family and friends

Sending money overseas is as easy as a trip to the Post Office. Get face-to-face support and service from our friendly staff.

Head to a participating Post Office with your Australian mobile number and one of the following forms of current and valid ID:

  • Australian driver's license
  • Passport3
  • Australian Proof of Age card4

We'll tell you the currency exchange rate and any applicable fees for your money transfer upfront. Confirm your recipient details, pay using cash or EFTPOS and your money is on its way.

There is no need to prefill any forms – you'll only need to fill out a Western Union brochure (PDF 514kB) at the counter if you're a new sender or transferring money to a new recipient.

Send money online 24/7 from the convenience of your online device.

  1. Log in to the online money transfer service1 provided by Western Union, or sign up for free if you don't already have an account.
  2. Select the destination country and fill in your transfer amount.
  3. Choose your preferred delivery and payment method.
  4. Enter your receiver's details.
  5. If you're a new user, you'll need to complete a quick one-time verification check using current and valid ID such as your passport or an Australian driver's licence. Once verified, you'll be able to proceed with your money transfer.
  6. Pay for your transfer using your debit/credit card or bank transfer using POLi.

Send money by starting on your online device and finalising payment in-store.

  1. Log in to the online money transfer service1 provided by Western Union or sign up for free if you don't already have an account.
  2. Select the destination country and fill in your transfer amount.
  3. Choose your preferred delivery method.
  4. Select 'Pay in-store'.
  5. Head to a participating Post Office within 24 hours to make your payment and complete your money transfer.

Choose how your recipient gets your money

There are a number of options you can choose from when sending funds overseas:

  • A cash pickup, available within minutes2 from a Western Union agent1 at over 550,000 agents in over 200 countries and territories1 globally5.
  • Directly to a bank account, available within 1hr – 2 business days2 across 80+ countries.6 The fee is paid by the sender.7 Unlike bank transfers, there are no costly surprises8.
  • Mobile wallet, available within 1hr – 2 business days1 by using the receiver's mobile number.9
